BRITISH FASHION COUNCIL

The Morphbag by GSK is a proud new member of the British Fashion Council.

With BFC showcasing the best of British fashion design to an international audience, it has been an aspiration since the launch of The Morphbag by GSK, for GSK Bespokedesigns ltd (the British company behind the brand) to be a member of this reputable organisation who is also the mother of London Fashion Week.

Furthermore, with the British Fashion Council's mission being the strengthening of British Fashion in the global economy as a leader in responsible, creative businesses, through championing diversity, building and inviting the industry network to accelerate a successful circular fashion economy, we also share the same values.

SMARTWORKS

Reading & Thames Valley

The Morphbag by GSK collaboration with Smartworks

Empowerment of women is a cause close to the hearts of both The Morphbag and Smart Works. Both share similar values and understand the importance of creating a community, helping, giving back, and enabling women to have their own ‘Morph-Moment’.

ONE TREE PLANTED

The Morphbag by GSK recently started collaborating with One Tree Planted and is planting 3 trees for the Amazon Project with every Morphbag set sold.

One Tree Planted runs many wonderful and essential projects but I chose this particular one because the Amazon Rainforest plays an important part in regulating the world's oxygen and carbon cycles as it produces approximately 6% of the world's oxygen and also acts as a carbon sink by readily absorbing large amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The Amazon Rainforest is also one of the main areas affected by deforestation from farming which is in contrast with one of the core values of sustainability The Morphbag brand stands for. This project also creates sustainable jobs by empowering land owners which also has an immeasurable positive effect on the environment.

Reforestation of the Amazon Rainforest helps restore the lungs of our Mother Earth. So far, we have contributed with planting hundreds of trees and we are committed to this project in the long run.

CONSCIOUS FASHION AND LIFESTYLE NETWORKConscious Fashion and Lifestyle Network | United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in Fashion| The Morphbag by GSK

The Morphbag by GSK is a proud member of the Conscious Fashion and Lifestyle Network which is set to promote the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals ("SDGs") within the Fashion Industry.

The SDGs were launched in 2015 with 169 targets included in 17 SDG to integrate into business with the objective to have these addressed and implemented globally by 2030.

The Conscious Fashion Campaign represents a unified language and framework for the Fashion Industry aimed at responsible production and consumption.

The Morphbag by GSK supports SDG 15, SDG 12 and SDG 17

SDG 15 – LIFE ON LAND

There have been numerous studies (e.g., FAO of the United Nations) which show that cattle farming is by far the biggest contributor to CO2 emissions in livestock farming, representing over 60% of associated emissions. What drives the growth in cattle farming is not just our consumption habits but also our use of cowhide for leather products (with 65% of leather being cow leather). Analysis has shown that leather accounts for up to 10% of the value of a cow* – hence, reducing the unnecessary demand for this by-product will contribute to the reduction in demand for cattle farming overall** – thereby lowering the carbon footprint of livestock farming and contributing to a more sustainable future.

The objective of the creation of The Morphbag by GSK was the desire to create cruelty-free handbags without compromising on either quality or style. The Morphbag by GSK is made from premium faux-leather that feels and looks like traditional leather but is P.E.T.A. certified vegan.

This is important as, while there is an increasing demand for ethical products, the mass market still represents a larger proportion of the whole market and non-ethically minded consumers will not be persuaded to switch to cruelty-free leather unless they get an alternative that has the same look, feel and quality of animal leather.

SDG 12 – RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION

GSKBESPOKEDESIGNS LTD, the company behind the brand, is partnered with a sustainably run factory in Guangzhou. The Morphbags are manufactured with highest precision and skilled craftsmanship. The artisans work in a factory with modern facilities and comfortable working conditions. They are paid fair wages, work legal business hours and are granted regular holidays.

SDG 17 – PARTNERSHIP FOR THE GOALS

Imported from China, thus increasing the exports of developing countries.
